Why I Started an Agency...
Starting an agency is a big step, but the path just seemed to naturally lead here. I grew up with extremely hard working parents who each owned their own company. So, the entrepreneurial spirit has always been a part of me.
After college, I spent a decade in retail. Eventually, it got old. I wanted to be more creative. I wanted to step behind the scenes and focus on growing brands through strategy and execution. With a website and social media representing a company 24/7 online, I wanted to set companies up for success by making sure their digital efforts were on point.
So, fast-forward to finally getting into the industry. It was a rough start, but I definitely learned a lot--especially about what I didn’t want to do. So instead of trying to find the agency that I would fit into, I decided to build that agency.
I built The Woodbury Agency because I wanted to focus on four things: Honesty, Accessibility, Adaptability and Affordability.
Honesty. I will always be honest with clients. When clients that get “yes’d” to death, they never fully get the results they want. They just get the execution they want. If a client wants to do something that may not be in their best interest, I’m going to say something. That’s not to say I’ll refuse to do something a client asks for, but it’s wrong to not open up the dialogue. The whole point is to make sure that everything we do will help the client and make them money.
Accessibility. If an email comes through “after hours” that needs an answer, it’s going to get a response. If a client has a question that they want to shoot over in a text, it’s going to get a response. Client’s needs don’t always come up from 9a - 5p, so helping them won’t be confined to those hours either. Hiring an agency creates a partnership that requires trust and giving up some control. No need to add any extra anxiety by not being available to the client when they need you.
Adaptable. Even in the short amount of time that I have been in this industry, so much has changed. For example, the social media tactics that were working a year ago, aren’t cutting it anymore. It’s all about pivoting and reacting whenever you need to. Reading and keeping up on trends is really important and I want to be able to turn around and use all the most current and relevant information to help clients.
Affordable. The rates that some agencies charge is excessive, to put it mildly. Small companies don’t have money to burn. On top of that, most of the time they don’t need (or want) marketing support for 40 hours a week. It’s about scaling the scope of work for as little or as much as the client needs. The priority and focus is to do quality work. Everything else will work itself out from there. But in the meantime, I am certainly not out to drain our client’s bank accounts.
It will obviously not be easy, it will require a ton of work and there will be a learning curve. But that’s what makes it exciting, right? So here we go...
